Ninety percent of people who enter county jails have no health insurance. Additionally, jail inmates suffer from chronic health conditions at a higher rate than the general population and 64 percent experience mental illness.

Many of those who cycle in and out of county jails may now be able to obtain health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA). With reforms to the ACA, jails are now in a unique position to connect those in their custody with health insurance during pretrial detention or prior to release.

Who is Eligible Under ACA?

Individuals are eligible to enroll if they fall under these categories:

Pre-conviction
Probation or parole
Post-conviction – under limited supervision or confinement

Individuals are eligible to enroll in a qualified health plan through the Health Insurance Marketplaces within 90 days of release, if they have been convicted and are incarcerated.

How Do Inmates Sign Up?

Trinity Corrections Care™, through our partner Resident Healthcare Advisors, will enroll individuals who are already housed in your facility and at intake.

The process is very simple and typically takes only a few minutes to gather the needed information, much of which is already required at intake, such as date of birth, SSN and gender.

Cut Intake Times Through I.R.I.S.™

Facilities have the option of utilizing Trinity partner BI2 Technologies Inmate Recognition & Identification System (I.R.I.S.™) to register and track enrollees, at no cost.
